Sr. Anne Xavier Marie Flora Loubert Obituary (1918 - 2017)

Sister Anne-Xavier Loubert, CSJ 1918- 2017 Waterville-Sr. Anne-Xavier, CSJ (Marie Flora Loubert, 99, died, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Mount St. Joseph, Waterville. She was born in Waterville, ME on July 28, 1918, the fifth of the seven children of Ernest and Maybelle (Jacques) Loubert. She received her early education in local schools and later studied at Portland, ME, Regis College Weston, MA and Fordham University, NY. Sr. Anne Xavier entered the novitiate of the Sister of St. Joseph at South Berwick in 1935, and made her Religious Profession in 1937. Her first assignment was at Holy Family School in Lewiston, Where she taught for eight years that preceded her departure for her chosen Mission in India. There she served for 31 years as a teacher and social worker in various institutions: St. Joseph's Madurai, St. Mary's Devakottai, Fatima College, Madurai and Government Erskine Hospital, Madurai. Sister took pride in the teaching profession, and considered herself a teacher long after her professional career was over. From the time of her return from India in 1977 up until 1995, Sister was involved in Religious Education Program of St. John Parish, Winslow and St. Agnes Parish, Pittsfield. During that period of her life, she was happy in what she called her "Ministry of Presence" at St. Theresa Parish and in the CSJ Community in Oakland. Also, under the Missionary Cooperation Plans of the Diocese of Portland, She gave talks on India in many parishes of Maine. She retired at Fontbonne Community, Mount St. Joseph, in February 2006. Survivors include two sisters-in-laws, Mildred Loubert, Florida, Simone Loubert, Perigueux, France; several nieces and nephews; cousins, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; four sisters, Sr. Marie Ernest, CSJ, Sr. Anne of Jesus, CSJ, Sr. Jeannette, CSJ, Sr. St. Denis, CSJ, and two brothers, Ronald and Daniel. At her request, Sr. Anne Xavier's body was donated to the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME for medical education and research. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville. Burial of her ashes will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville.
