Sheila Lord

–

Winslow, Maine

The Lord called His earth angel home, and with heavy hearts, we share the passing of Sheila Lord, 76, of Winslow, Maine, who left this earth surrounded by love on May 9, 2026. Her life was a beautiful reflection of faith, compassion, and unconditional love, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born on June 2, 1949, Sheila was the daughter of Lionel “Leo” Duquette and Wilma (Quirion) Carey.

Sheila grew up in Winslow and graduated from Mt. Merici Academy in 1967 before earning her certification from Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion in Lewiston. She worked locally as a hairdresser at Butler’s for several years before beginning her career at Klearview Manor in Fairfield. She started there as a housekeeping supervisor and later continued her education to become the dietary supervisor, a role she held with dedication until her retirement.

After high school, Sheila married Walter Benson, and together they had two beautiful daughters, Bridget and Holly.

She later married Bruce Pomerleau, and together they welcomed a daughter, Cathy. They settled in Shawmut, where they raised their family along with Bruce’s daughters, Kimberly and Shelly.

Life brought Sheila deep sorrow with the passing of her daughter Holly and the decline of Bruce’s health. Sheila became a widow at the young age of 36. In the years that followed, she devoted herself to caring for her family. Eventually, she met and found love again with her husband, Roy Lord.

Sheila was one of the most compassionate and kind women one could ever meet. She cherished special moments with her family and friends and never had an unkind word to say about anyone, always choosing to see the good in those around her.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially taking drives through the countryside with loved ones, visiting new restaurants to try new cuisines together, and enjoying special day trips with her daughters, granddaughters, and family. Special days spent with dear friends Rose Adams and Lori Charrier were always looked forward to and deeply treasured. Her love for her family was shown in countless ways, including the care she and Roy provided for her father during the last years of his life, allowing him to safely remain in his home until his passing.

Sheila was especially blessed to have known and loved her eldest great-granddaughter for ten beautiful years and her eldest great-grandson for four beautiful years, sharing in countless moments of joy and laughter. In the months before her passing, she was also blessed by the continued growth of her family with the arrival of a second great-granddaughter, whom she loved holding and spending time with, and a second great-grandson, whose arrival added another beautiful blessing to the family she loved so deeply. She also deeply treasured visits from her brother, whose trips from across state lines were among the highlights of her year.

Sheila’s faith was central to her life. She practiced daily prayer and was devoted to the Holy Rosary. She found comfort in the stories of the saints and lovingly made sure each of her grandchildren had their own saint and prayers. She often shared prayers with her husband and loved ones, lit votive candles for those in need, and gave generously to charitable causes and strangers who needed support. Her prayer cards and quiet acts of faith brought comfort to many who knew and loved her.

Sheila was predeceased by her husband Bruce Pomerleau; her daughter Holly Benson; her parents Leo Duquette and Wilma Carey; sister-in-law Theresa Johnston; grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Lord of Winslow; her daughters, Bridget Wing and her husband, Randy, of St. Albans, Cathy Dumont of Fairfield, Kimberly Whitley and her husband, Paul, of Gardiner, and Shelly Pomerleau of Orlando, Florida; her brother Dan Duquette and his wife Elizabeth of Tucson, AZ; her stepchildren, Donna Mionis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lisa Harding and her husband, Butch, of Randolph, and Dan Lord and his partner, Nikki Shenk, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Jed Crommett and his wife, Mariah, of Winslow, Jordan Dumont of Fairfield, Erica Kelsey and her husband, Jeremy, of Winslow, Kasandra Dumont and her partner, Deklan Thurston, of Old Town, and Brooke Wing and her fiancé, Jacob Crocker, of Dover-Foxcroft; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Crommett, Kennedy Kelsey, Tatum Kelsey of Winslow and Archer Crocker of Dover-Foxcroft; and many nieces and nephews.

In a tender and meaningful way, Sheila’s funeral will be held on her birthday, June 2, a day that now marks both the gift of her life and the celebration of her return home to the Lord. For her family, it feels like a beautiful completion of the circle of life.
