Fairfield Sandra Hunter Tessier, 65 of Fairfield and Rockwood passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on July 11, 2009 at the C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville due to complications with pancreatic cancer. Sandra was born Oct. 9, 1943 and raised in Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School. She was employed for a few years as a nursing assistant at the Thayer Hospital in Waterville. After marrying her husband, then Officer Candidate Paul Tessier, she became an Army Wife and a full-time home maker raising four children. As an Army Wife, she functioned as the glue that held her family together when her husband's military career took him on assignments alone. She followed her husband to various Army Posts throughout the U.S., Panama and Germany, sometimes traveling there alone with her four children. She often boasted of moving to 13 different Army locations over a 23 year period. sometimes with multiple moves as a single location. She especially enjoyed traveling throughout Europe while living in Germany for three and a half years. Upon her husband's retirement from the Army, the family re-located to Fairfield. She then managed the family's apartment rental business. She was also the family nurturer, caring for her aged mother and mother-in-law and her grandchildren when needed, sometimes for extended periods. Sandra was adamant that her four children would attend and graduate from college. She accomplished this goal this year. In recent years she was the consummate political volunteer working countless hours on political mailings for her husband's legislative campaigns as well as campaigns of her daughter, Lisa Marrache, Assistant Majority Leader for the Maine Senate. Her other hobbies were cooking, knitting and crocheting. Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Milan and Amelia Hunter of Waterville; her sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Donald Carroll of Cary, N.C.; her nephew, Donald Carroll Jr. of Cary, N.C. and a close niece, Candy Pendexter Romero of Sacramento, CA. and formerly of Benton.
