Ruth Mae Sweet Lessard, 91, passed away with her family at her side on March 29, 2012 at Moonlight Bay, Dementia Unit , Lakewood Continuing Care Center, Waterville. She was born on December 23, 1920 in Spencer, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Margaret and William Sweet. Ruth attended School in Worcester Massachusetts and North Vassalboro. Ruth married Gilbert Lessard, April 20, 1940 at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in North Vassalboro. Ruth worked for W.T. Grant Co., Rich's Department Store and Butlers Department Store. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at the Muskie Center and for HealthReach. She enjoyed making crafts, tole painting, reading, making puzzles and walking. Ruth also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune every night, listening to music especially her son-in-laws music. She was always proud to have him play at the Lakewood. She loved her family with all her heart and the children made every day very special to her She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert, of 49 years, who passed away in 1989; her mother and father; five sisters, Maude Keyes, Idah Noel, Lenore Bergeren of Worcester, Massachusetts, Mildred Judkins of York, Maine, Marjorie Tantish of Norridgewock , Me; two brothers, Phillip Sweet of Fairfield, ME and William Sweet of North Brookfield, Massachusetts. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Lachance and her husband Gerald of Oakland; a son, Paul Lessard of North Vassalboro and one sister, Barbara Judkins and her husband, Kenneth of Winslow, and brother in law, Dana Judkins of Kittery Maine. Ruth has eight grandchildren, Gregory Sheive, Laurie Goodnow, Jill Conover, Keith Lessard, Shelly Frost, Samantha, Melanie, and Kristopher Lessard; ten great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a new great-great grandson due in August, several nieces and nephews. Ruth will be missed by all. She was a very special Mom, Nana and friend to all who knew her. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for all the wonderful care Mom received at Lakewood Moonlight Bay. She loved everyone there and the family would like to express our appreciation to all the staff for their exceptional kindness and friendship they have given to Mom and our family. We would also like to thank all the HealthReach Hospice staff for their care and support during her last few months of life, she looked forward to the weekly visits knowing they were there just for her. It was a blessing for all of us that we had so much support and love. At her request there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. Burial will follow at St Francis Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Moonlight Bay/Lakewood Continuing Care Center, 220 Kennedy Memorial Dr., Waterville.
