Winslow-Ruth A. Gallagher, 82 of Winslow passed away Friday January 30, 2015. Ruth was born in St. Johnsbury Vermont on December 30, 1932, the daughter of Bernice and Howard F. Adams, Sr. A graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1950; Ruth married Robert A. Gallagher, USN in 1953 and spent the ensuing years as a Navy wife. Following her husband's death in 1969, she and their children settled in Winslow, Maine. During her working years Ruth was employed by Oak Grove School, Dr. Loring Pratt, Maine District Court, Northeast Title and retired from the Human resources Department of MaineGeneral Medical Center. Ruth served as a Eucharistic Minister and a CCD teacher at St. John's Church Corpus Christi Parish, was a member of the Board of the Winslow Youth Hockey Program, the Winslow Parks and Recreation Committee and the Winslow Town Council. She was also a volunteer at MaineGeneral Medical Center and a member of the Thayer Hospital Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and their two sons, Stephen and David and her brother, Howard F. Adams, Jr. Ruth is survived by son, William; daughter, Karen and daughter in law, Cassandra; as well as grandchildren, Nicholas Gallagher, his wife Eugenia and their daughter, Violet; Joshua Gallagher, Nathan McLaughlin and his wife Katie; Todd McLaughlin, his wife Kaitlyn and their daughters Mackenzie and Madelyn Ruth; and granddaughter Kaylie McLaughlin and her fianc', Matthew Conti. Other survivors include her sister and husband Marion and Michael Sharik; sister in law Flora Nordstrom and Celine Adams; several nieces and nephews; as well as Judy Gallagher and Ted McLaughlin. A service in Ruth's memory will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Ruth's family would like to express their deep gratitude to MaineGeneral Hospice employees, all of whom walked her final walk with her. It was Ruth's wish that they know how much she appreciated their devotion, care and compassion during her final stages of life.
