Phyllis V. Collins, 83, of Waterville, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at her residence. She was born at Anson, Aug. 17, 1928, the daughter of Ferd and Ruth Macklin Viles. Mrs. Collins had been employed for Keyes Fibre for more than 30 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She had also worked at W.T. Grant part time. She volunteered for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and for cancer research and for disabled people. She is survived by three sons, Anthony "Tony" S. Collins and James Jeffrey Collins, both of Waterville, and Timothy T. Collins of Nashua, N.H.; first cousin Shirley and husband Warren Bessey of North Anson; a half-sister, Pat Hatch, of Verona Island; a sister-in-law, Gloria Collins, of Winslow; two grandchildren, Jessica L. Collins and Nathan A. Collins; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at noon at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery on Civic Center Drive in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Phyllis's memory may be made to the Humane Society Waterville Area.
