Maurice A. Gilbert 81, died late Monday evening, Oct. 20, 2014 at Alfond Center for Health in Augusta. He was born in Waterville, Maine on March 17, 1933 the son of Norman and Marion Ronco Gilbert. He was educated in local schools and was formerly employed as service manager for Ace Tire Co. here in Waterville for several years. He was a Korean Conflict veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Waterville Bourque-Lanigan Post 5 American Legion. Maurice was loved by all those who knew him. He was a hard- working man even after retirement. He loved the outdoors and was in the woods often. Maurice was a special husband, father and grandfather, with a positive attitude about life. He was never seen without a smile on his face and a chuckle behind the smile. His sense of humor was beyond words and always had a hug ready. Maurice had a love for life and his family. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rita Williamson Gilbert; his daughter, Janet Soucy of Waterville; his son, Alton Gilbert and wife Renee of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother John Gilbert and wife Deanna of Caribou; sister, Elaine Burgess of Lewiston; also by 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Maurice was predeceased by his son Scott Gilbert and three brothers, Norman, David and Roland Gilbert. Relatives and friends may visit with family members on Sunday October 26, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Gallant Funeral Home 10 Elm St., Waterville. A memorial service will be held Monday October 27 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Committal prayers and burial of cremains will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, South Freedom Road in Albion.
