Leland G. Giroux, 89, passed away Sat., April 14, 2012 in Waterville. He was the beloved husband of the late Anita Couture Giroux who predeceased him in 1986. Born in Skowhegan, Maine June 8, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles and Marie Rose Bouchard Giroux. He grew up in Skowhegan and lived with his parents on a farm on the back road. Lee was a graduate of Skowhegan High School and Linotype School in Tuckahoe, N.Y. He was employed as a Linotype operator by the Kennebec Journal from 1946 to 1948 and the Morning Sentinel from 1948 until retiring in 1987. Lee was an avid golfer having shot a "Hole-in-One" several years ago at the Palmyra Golf Course while playing with friends. He was a member of the Waterville Country Club and played on the Central Maine Seniors golf league. He also loved to bowl and was on various bowling leagues. Lee was also a member of the Waterville Lodge of Elks for many years. One of his hobbies was braiding rugs for which he won first place ribbons at the Skowhegan State Fair. Lee enjoyed being with his family at home and at the family farm in Skowhegan. He is survived by his wife Beatrice Gauthier Giroux of Winslow; a daughter, Pamela Stoddard of Scarborough, ME; three sons, Denis Giroux of North Attleboro, MA, David Giroux of Gorham, ME and Paul Giroux of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thurs. April 19, 2012 at Notre Dame Church, 112 Silver St., Waterville. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
