Jane Frances Letourneau Obituary (1924 - 2009)

The family would like both photos included. Winslow Jane Frances Munro Letourneau, 84, passed away Apr. 25, 2009 at Lakewood in Waterville, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland Sept. 25, 1924. She became a naturalized citizen on Jan. 15, 1953. Her father was David Brown Munro and her mother Isabella Budge Munro both deceased. Her mother died when Jane was seven and all four children were raised by Donald and Jane Budge at 29 Earl Gray St., Edinburgh, Scotland. Their maternal grandparents together with their daughter Christina who remained home to help her parents raise this family. Jane's grandfather was a tailor to the Royal Family. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Douglas. She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Shirley J. and Gerald Miller of Winslow, Susan M. and Gilbert Raymond of Benton, Sandra L. and Ad Butler of Fairfield, Barbara J. and Patrick Gill of So. Boston, MA., Gerard A and Dorene Letourneau of Winslow, John D. Letourneau of Sarasota, FL. and Elizabeth ''Lisa'' M. and Daniel Burgess of Waterville; 16 grandchildren, Kristin Murch of Turner, Karla Connor of Abington, MA., Kenneth Roy of Portland, Jennifer Raymond-Ayer of Augusta, Jessica Huard of Waterville, Jaynee Butler of Fairfield, Ryan Gill of Chelmsford, MA., Katie Gill of Cambridge, MA., Alan and Timothy Letourneau both of Winslow, Douglas and Bradley Letourneau of Sarasota, FL., Taylor and Alexander Carey, Devin and Drew Burgess all of Waterville; eight great-grandchildren, Kassie and Cara Murch, Lauren, Lily, Scarlet Ayer, Travis, Dylan, and Paige Letournea; a brother, Donald and wife Jean Munro and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Munro all of Edinburgh, Scotland; aunt, Christina Williamson age 97 of Edinburgh, Scotland; sisters-in-law, Ms. Grace Letourneau of Winslow and Mrs. Alice Taylor of Chesapeake, VA.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins both in Scotland and in the U.S. While growing up, Jane helped her grandmother with the other children -- being the only girl, she was the target of many boyhood pranks. She graduated from high school and worked as a secretary and also worked at a restaurant in the evenings. It was during that time that she was in a fire in the basement restaurant and nearly lost her life in that fire. Jane met her future husband, Gerald A Letourneau,while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force during WW II and was on R&R in Edinburgh. They met at the Palais Dance Hall at an afternoon tea dance. After the War he returned to the U.S. and worked to save money to send for Jane. After a year, he sent her the plane fare for her to come to the U.S. and be married. While she was waiting to come to America, Jane studied the Catholic religion and became a baptized member of the Catholic Church. Her mother-in-law and father-in-law had to sponsor her for her to be able to come to the States. After they married she lived in Waterville before buying their first home in Fairfield. She only worked outside the home for a short time when her husband was injured and could not work. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother and together with her faithful, loving husband they raised a family of seven children. Both Jane and Jerry enjoyed dancing and they participated in round dancing withlocal groups. Many wonderful evenings were spent listening to the Lawrence Welk Show and dancing around in the kitchen together. Also they were fond of ''Charlemagne'', a french card game and they played often with her husband's twin brother and his wife, Annette. Jane's entire life was centered on her home and her family. After her husband passed away Feb.27, 1993 in Waterville, she sold the family home on Gray Street in Waterville and moved to Winslow. She was a member of the ''Foxy Ladies'', a dance group of senior citizens that line danced and entertained at many nursing home throughout the area. In Sept. of 2008 she moved into Sunset Home, a residential care facility for women and in Feb. 2009 moved to Lakewood Nursing Home both in Waterville. The family wants to express their gratitude to all of the nurses and CNA's who lovingly cared for Jane, especially her friend, Sherry. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her memory be made to Corpus Christi Parish, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville, ME 04901 or to HealthReach Hospice, 10 Water St., Suite 307, Waterville, ME 04901. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wed., Apr. 29, 2009 at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville. Burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove St., Waterville. Arrangements are with the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
