Waterville-Irene G. Roy passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Lakewood Manor, Waterville. A lifelong resident of Waterville, Irene was born May 14, 1921, the daughter of Thomas A. and Amelia P. Gogan. She was educated in local schools and on July 1st, 1941 married the love of her life, Richard H. Roy. Richard predeceased Irene in 1992. \r\nThree children were born to them, Lee-Anne Folsom of North Vassalboro, John R. Roy of Bar Harbor, and Peter R. Roy of Carrabassett Valley. \r\nBeginning in 1960, and for more than 40 years thereafter, Irene was a popular, and valued staff member at the Waterville Public Library.\r\nIrene is survived by five granddaughters, and twelve great grandchildren.\r\nShe was predeceased by her sisters Evelyn Varney and Madeline Gogan. \r\nIrene's family would very much like to extend to the wonderful staff at Lakewood their sincere thanks for the care and attention paid to Irene during her stay there. \r\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 70 Pleasant Street Waterville at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 16th. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.\r\nArrangements are under the care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville.
