Augusta Herman Crawford Burden, 62, of Northern Ave., died Sat. July 16, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family after a very long illness. He was born in Presque Isle, Maine, Feb. 13, 1943, the middle son of extremely hard working parents, Guy and Alta Burden. He was educated in the public school system, graduating from Presque Isle High School in 1961. In Sept. of that year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably during the Vietnam Conflict until his discharge in Jan. 1966. While in service to his country, he served on the USS Lake Champlain until Nov. 1962 and on the USS Coral Sea from May 1962 to Jan. 1966. On discharge, he attended Beale Business School in Bangor. Later he moved to Connecticut where he worked for Pratt and Whitney until the fall of 1972. On his return to Maine, he worked for Maine Drilling and Blasting for three years and Bath Iron Works for 24 years. His memberships included VFW Post 887, Augusta Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 964 and the American Legion Post 178. When recently asked what he felt was his greatest accomplishment, Herman responded ''My Family.'' In 1973, he married Kathleen Joseph who survives him. Other survivors include his daughter Jennifer, her husband Mark Wescott and their daughter Leah; his son David and David's twin daughters, Ashley and Brailey as well as the twin's mother, Amanda Moody; his daughter Sarah Burden; and his loving companions Rosie and Sadie. He also is survived by his two brothers, Keith and wife Veneita Burden of Acton, MA and their children and grandchilden; Wendell and wife Kathleen Burden of Gardner, KS and their children and grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wed. July 27 at St. Joseph Maronite Catholic Church, Front St., Waterville with Rev. Samuel Najjar officiating and Rev. Mr. Peter Joseph assisting. Graveside committal service will follow Wed. at 1 p.m. at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
