Winslow Gordon F. Vashon, 71, of Benton Ave. in Winslow died Mon. Mar. 16, 2009 at Oak Grove in Waterville. He was born in Waterville, May 4, 1937 the son of Vernal J. and Modeste Poissonnier Vashon. Mr. Vashon was a high school graduate and had worked for 23 years as a manager in the produce dept. at Cottles Market. He owned the Middle Road C&L takeout in Sidney for 12 years. He was involved in the Winslow High School Band Booster Club when his children were in school and St. John's School board. He was a member of the Lions Club in Winslow and the Waterville Volunteer Firefighters. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He also liked camping at Bartlett Camps in Belgrade and playing softball and golfing. Survivors include his wife, Annine Gagnon Vashon of Winslow; a son Michael Vashon of Richmond; two daughters and their husbands, Sylvia and Charlie Kowaleuski of Hope, N.J. and Branda and Jeffrey Lary of Hartland; a sister and her husband, Sandra and Richard Brown of Sidney; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild. The family would like to thank Dr. Opilinsky and the nurses at the dialysis center, staff at Oak Grove Nursing Home, and the staff at Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care for their loving care. Visiting hours will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Sat., Mar. 21, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow. Committal prayers will be said at church. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove St., Waterville. A luncheon will be held in St. John's School after the service.
