Waterville--Gideon "Sonny" J. Talbot, Jr., 78, of Waterville died Mon., Mar. 9, 2015 at Lakewood. He was born in Waterville, Apr. 17, 1936 the son of Gedeon J. and Evelyn H. Dionne Talbot, Sr. Sonny was a graduate of Coburn Classical Institute, St. Michael College and received a B.S. degree from Thomas College. He served in the U.S. Army. He had been a teacher for 35 years at Lawrence High School in Fairfield. Sonny and his wife, Paula owned and operated a bed and breakfast in Belgrade Lakes for 15 years. Sonny liked socializing with fellow teachers, reading, and yearly trips to St. Anne Deaupre in Canada and his trips to Moosehead Lake. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Florida for the past 14 to 15 years. He liked to play golf at Belgrade Lakes. Sonny had also worked at Dunham's of Maine Store on Main St. in Waterville. He was a devoted father and husbandthey considered him the "Best of the Best". Sonny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Paula J. Berkley Talbot of Waterville; son, Jay J. Talbot of Lewiston; brother, J. Michael Talbot and wife Cynthia A. of Waterville; sister, Patricia T. King of Fairfield; in-laws, Nathan and Patricia Berkley of VA; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer their thanks to their good friends, Charles and Chris Gaunce of Waterville and to Lakewood Manor staff for their service to him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. Sat., Mar. 14, at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville. Burial with Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
