Waterville-Gerald Romeo Paradis, aka, "Moondog" passed away October 18, 2017, at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville with his sister at his side. He was 72. Mental illness was his life-long companion and in later years a constant struggle, until in His great mercy God called him home.\r\nGerald was born in Winslow on September 9, 1945, son of Willie and Rose (Couture) Paradis. He was a lifelong resident of the Greater Waterville Area, schooled at St. John's Parochial School in Winslow and later spent a few years at the Pineland Institution in Pownal ME.\r\nHe worked in various jobs over the years before going to work for MGMC at Thayer in Waterville where he was employed in Housekeeping for 18 years. Gerald took great pride in his work and his work ethics were very much appreciated by his supervisors.\r\nHe was an avid cyclist and he and his bike went everywhere, from Waterville, Augusta, Lewiston, Old Orchard and nearly every summer he made the trip to Lac Megantic in Canada to visit with his favorite uncle.\r\nHe is survived by his sister, Lorraine Gregory and brother-in-law, Francis; sister-in-law, Anne Paradis and her companion, Matt, of Florida; nieces Jodie (Gregory) LaChance (Richard) of Augusta, Dawn Gregory of Lewiston, nephew Sean Gregory (Mary Ann) of Skowhegan, niece Danielle MacCauley (Duncan) of Vermont and nephew Christopher Paradis, several great-nieces/nephews, great-great-nieces/nephews, and many cousins.\r\nHe was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Paradis.\r\nThe family would like to express great thanks to Mount St. Joseph for the wonderful care and compassion given him these past few months.\r\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 AM at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville followed by a committal service at St. Francis Cemetery, 78 Grove Street, Waterville.\r\nAll arrangements are under the direction and care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville.
