ETHEL M. VIOLETTE of WINSLOW died January 5th. 2015, after a lengthy illness surrounded by her family. Born August 31, 1927 at home in Fairfield, Maine, Ethel was the only child born to Alice and Chester McBeth. She was educated in Fairfield schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1944. In September 1944 she enrolled in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp and completed her nurse's training in September 1947 from the Sister's Hospital School of Nursing in Waterville. Following graduation, she worked as a private duty nurse at the Thayer Hospital and cared for patients in their homes throughout Central Maine. On October 20, 1947, she married Robert J. Violette, her high school sweetheart. Together they raised a family of seven children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who took great pleasure in her family. One of her greatest pleasures was hosting family gatherings at their Sugarloaf Mountain chalet and at their camp on China Lake. Ethel is survived by her loving husband Bob of 67 years; sons David Sandy of Winslow; Gary of Norridgewock; Kevin Kathy of Fairfield; Joel Patty of Fairfield; Peter Jean of Clinton; Todd Lisa of Winslow; and daughter Donna Maiorino Pat of Falmouth, Maine. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the nurses, aides and therapists at Oak Grove Rehabilitative and Living Center for their professional and compassionate care. At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday the 9th at 11:00 at Sacred Heart Church, 70 Pleasant Street, Waterville, followed by a celebration of her life at the Elk's Club, 76 Industrial Road, Waterville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Mr. Pasquale Maiorino c/o Winslow Community FCU, 21 Monument St Winslow, ME 04901 for the establishment of a nursing scholarship in her name.
