Eariel Glenn Matte, 84, of Kennebunk and formerly of Waterville, died Tuesday, July, 24, 2012, at Huntington Common's Bradford Court, Kennebunk. Eariel was born in Waterville on April 30, 1928, the son of Richard C. and Eva Giguere Matte. He graduated from Waterville High School and Thomas Business College and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. Eariel was the owner of Rummel's Ice Cream in Waterville, now Giffords Ice Cream. He was a member of Waterville Knights of Columbus # 148, and the American Legion Post 5 in Waterville. Eariel was predeceased by his parents; seven siblings, Frank and Eugene, Roland, and Richard Pomerleau, Dorothy Pomerleau Dorval, Geraldine Matte Benjamin and Jacqueline Matte Doe. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Mailloux Matte of Kennebunk; two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Glenn Bell of Acton, MA. and Vicki and Doug Wainoris of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Enrico Wainoris, Lauren Bell, Haley Rowe, Audrey Bell, Eric Bell, and Jacqueline Wainoris; a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Rowe, and by many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. Burial with military honors will follow at 10 a.m. in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
