Douglas W. Crate, Jr. Obituary (1926 - 2008)

Douglas W. Crate Jr., of Waterville, Maine, died peacefully while family gathered to lovingly support his passing on July 3, 2008 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine after a brief illness. He was 81. Doug was born on November 15, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA. He married Sally Church Alexander on July 24th, 1948 and had four sons. He served in the United States Army in Germany at the end of WWII and was a life time member of the Elks. Doug taught 4th grade in the Bangor school system. Dougs interests included; n size trains, politics, sports, good conversation and family. He will be missed by his special friend and companion over the last two years, Pauline Ingalls and her family, of South Portland. He is survived by three sons Douglas W. III and his wife Misha of Winterport, ME; Stephen C. and his wife Allison of Waterville, ME; and Jeffrey S. and his wife Pam of Gardner, ME; his brother William Crate and his wife Marion of Beverly Hills, MA; and sister Millie Edelman and husband Ray of Glassboro, NJ; eight grand children, three great grand children and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Philips of Spokane, Washington & her family. He is predeceased by his wife Sally Church Alexander Crate who died in July of 2005 and son Robert Henry Crate who died in February of 2001. Visiting hours 1:00-2:30 PM and a memorial service 2:30 PMcelebrating his life will be held at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville, ME on Saturday July 12, 2008 from 1-3:30 pm with light refreshments and fellowship following: All friends and family are welcomed.
