Waterville-David A. Proulx, 68, passed away on January 1,2017, surrounded by family, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Waterville, ME on April 21, 1948, the third child to Ruth and Albert (Peco) Proulx.
Dave attended Notre Dame and The Brother's of Saint Joseph schools, in the South End of Waterville, spending many hours at Art's Ice Skating rink where he perfected his hockey skills. He later went to Waterville High School and set several hockey records. In his senior year, he co-captained the hockey team to a state championship game. He graduated in 1966. Dave continued his love with playing hockey playing for the L/A Twins several years and then officiated games for the next 20 years.
David began his career at Keyes Fibre/Huhtamaki in 1966 and continued for
44 years in the maintenance department. During those years he was active
in the union in various positions. He retired in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many of these years fishing and hunting with his father, brothers, son and many friends especially at East Grand Lake. They always had to be on the lake when the ice went out usually in May. He would proudly bring home salmon and togue to share with others.
On May 6, 1967, he married the love of his life Louise Lord. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They spent yearly vacations tenting and canoeing with their children and any additional friends that may have wanted to join them. In the 80's they decided to pick up the game of golf with their friends Pat and Jim taking vacations at Myrtle Beach for several years. Every trip was a hoot. After both of them retired, Dave and Louise took their dream trip to Alaska driving cross country and through Canada seeing the sights and fishing for halibut in Homer, Alaska. They were part of the 20% of visitors that actually get to see Mt. McKinley in Denali National Park. Summers were spent at camp on North Pond creating family memories fishing, campfires, waterskiing, hunting and making North Pond Rescues. He developed some wonderful lifelong friendships with the neighbors on Island View Lane. He also spent many afternoons at the Waterville VFW, watching Gunsmoke and chatting with the regulars. Dave was known for always being a quiet gentlemen and a friend to all.
They have three children, Laura, Lesley and Damian. They were blessed with
9 grandchildren, who gave them great joy and each one held a special spot in his heart. They became Mam and Pep as soon as Cody began speaking. Mam and Pep were some of the grandkids greatest fans at sporting events and many school functions.
He is sadly missed by his wife Louise, daughter Laura and husband Wayne Doughty, daughter Lesley and husband John Snyer, son and namesake David Damian and his wife Aimee Proulx, brother Butch (Philip) Proulx and wife Jocelyn, sister Carol Denis, grandchildren Cody, Lauren, Bailey, John, Sara, Katie, Michael, David and Mallory, special cousins Michael and Roland Trepanier, his lifelong bud and hunting planner China (Bob) Pelletier.
