Waterville-- A beloved sister, aunt, wonderful friend and teacher to many, Dale Ferris, 79 , passed away on October 12, 2014 at Lakewood Manor in Waterville. She was born on April 22, 1935 in North Vassalboro to Thomas and Catherine Ghantos Ferris. Dale grew up in North Vassalboro and attended Mount Mercy Academy, graduating in 1953. Along with her sister, Judy Juliet Ferris, Dale co-owned and operated The Holy Childhood Nursery School for 28 years, where she and her sister taught many area children. Long after their education was completed , many of these same children expressed their appreciation as adults for the wonderful start in education they had received from Dale and her sister. After the nursery school closed Dale became a Certified Nursing Assistant where she lovingly cared for many of the sisters at the Mount Merci Convent as well as other aging and disabled people in the community. Dale was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Catherine Ferris and siblings, Faith, Emaline and Deeb. Dale is survived by her sister Juliet Ferris of Waterville, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and several close friends. She was a communicant of Corpus Christie Parish in Waterville and served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister. A memorial Mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville on November 5, 2014 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21297-0303.
