Coralene D. Cates, 80, of East Vassalboro went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on May 28, 2013 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, surrounded by her loving family. Corey was born on January 5, 1933 in Gardiner, a daughter of Gerald and Ethel Clark Driscoll. She attended schools in Weeks Mills and Saco and graduated from Erskine Academy in 1950. She was employed by Augusta Savings Bank prior to her marriage to Herbert Cates on Nov. 17, 1950. Later she taught music in area schools and was choir director at local churches. Eventually she opened a gift shop out of her home, the Silk Purse, which closed in 2004. She was "Mom" to more children than one can count. She loved reading, music and sewing and her three dachshunds, Toby, Lady and Chip. She was predeceased by her brother, Gerald Withee and her parents She is survived by her husband, Herbert; her sons, Peter of East Vassalboro and his former spouse, Laurel of Valhalla, N.Y. and their daughter, Mara of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Stephen and his wife Emily of South China and their children, Charlotte and her husband Dr. Joel Haynes of Schenectady, N.Y. and Abraham and his wife Sonia and their three children, Joselyn, Carlyle and Macauley of Winslow, and Brian and his wife Teresa and their two sons, Michael and Philip of Naples, FL.; and daughter, Laura and her husband Dana Pooler of Afton, N.Y. and their four daughters, Annelisa and her husband David Beiler and their three children, Avery, Kristin and Illiana; Cassandra and her husband Brendan Wadel and their three daughters, Gabriella, Annika and Keresa; Joanna and her husband David Keyes and Jana Celine; and Alexandra and her husband William Kurtz. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sat., June 1, 2013 at the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Route 201, Vassalboro.
