Waterville, Maine On a beautiful autumn day, October 17, 2008, Blanche Elizabeth Megahan Hyatt died peacefully with her daughters by her side. Bette was born to Urie Walter and Anna Walker Megahan in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania on January 31, 1919. She and her brother, Urie,Jr. grew up in Palmyra, New Jersey. The family vacationed in Avalon, New Jersey where she met her future husband Robert W. Hyatt. They wed in 1942 and lived in Palmyra and Riverton until 1998 when they moved to Winslow, Maine to be near their daughters. Bette was devoted to her family and was a gracious friend to all who knew her. She had a smile for everyone. She loved animals, nature and knitting. Bette was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2002 and her brother Urie in World War II. She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Hayward and her husband Sumner and Linda Lee and her husband William. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Jessica Brown and her husband Paul, Corinne Lee and Andrea Lee and great-grandson James P. Brown. At Bette's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral.
