Bertha A. Corrigan Obituary (1913 - 2005)

______________________ Bertha Corrigan, a Maine native and long-time Waterville resident, died on Saturday evening, Aug. 20, 2005. She was 91 and living in Smyrna, Georgia with family when she died of natural causes. Mrs. Corrigan, born Ann Marie Albert on December 7, 1913, was one of ten children born to Charles Albert and Edith Chasse in St. Agatha, Aroostook County. Her family moved from St. Agatha to Waterville when she was a young girl. She later married Herbert Leo Corrigan on December 14, 1931 and raised eight children with her husband of more than 60 years. A devoted wife and mother, she eventually became the beloved grandmother to 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren. During her long life, Mrs. Corrigan worked as a seamstress for the C. S. Hathaway Company, where she retired after many years of dedicated service. During her later years, she was a resident and volunteer at the Muskie Senior Center. She also was an active member of the Notre Dame Ladies Guild and volunteered her time with the Notre Dame after-school CCD program. She is survived by two sisters--Marie Cosgrove of Waterville and Connie Faroni of Derby, Connecticut, a brother--Lee Albert of Zephyrhills, Florida--and five of her eight children: Beverly Doucette of Ellenton, Florida; Shirley Ayers of Smyrna, Georgia; Roger Corrigan of Canada; Norma Cole of Smyrna, Georgia; and Bert Corrigan of Smithfield, Maine. She is also survived by more than 45 combined grand, great-grand, and great, great-grandchildren who live throughout the United States and overseas. A wake will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening Aug. 24, at the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., in Waterville. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday morning at Notre Dame Church, 112 Silver St., Waterville with Rev. Philip Tracy officiating.
